The Windows Phone mobile platform is reportedly outperforming Apple in almost two dozen markets worldwide, says a Microsoft executive.

Microsoft's Director of Communications Christopher Flores stated the Windows Phone platform is taking advantage of "both ends" of the smartphone market, meaning the low cost and high cost ranges.

The director of communications for Microsoft insisted that the presence of Windows Phone will not slow down following the acquisition of Nokia's mobile division.

During a meet up with TechRadar, Flores presented statistics that showed Windows Phone devices in second place in 14 markets worldwide.

In regards to competition against Apple, Flores stated that devices with the Windows Phone operating system have outsold Apple iPhones across 24 markets. If true, as TechRadar reported, that would make the Microsoft mobile platform "the fastest-selling smartphone platform globally."

Flores, however, declined to give specifics on regions or countries for the statistics he provided. Perhaps as a hint, Flores mentioned the Windows Phone platform was succeeding in emerging countries likely due to the high cost for an iPhone.

One market where the Windows Phone platform is clearly outperforming Apple is Italy. Influxes of mobile carrier subsidies have reportedly proved to make devices with Windows Phone more appealing to consumers. In Spain, Windows Phone devices are allegedly close to overcoming Apple's second place rank.

Holding firmly at first place is Google's Android platform.

Microsoft reportedly promised to reveal more information on the statistics in the future but no projected date has been set.
