Costa Rica authorities report possible sightings of the children of Sinaloa cartel kingpin, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzmán, at a tourist spot in San Carlos, Alajuela.

Media outlet La Nacion got word from the country's Intelligence and Security (DIS) director, Mariano Figueres, about multiple visits of the drug lord's children in the country.

According to Figueres, this occurred at the time of the presidential elections of the Latin American country.

Unfortunately, the Costa Rican official refused to give any further details on the sightings, which he says occurred at least two times.

"The information we have is related to two specific cases which we are now investigating," Figueres' Spanish statement translates (via Google Translate).

Back in September, the Business Insider reported of a tweet from one of El Chapo's children, 29-year-old Alfredo Guzmán.

The photo, which was later removed from the microblogging platform, seemed to have revealed that Alfredo was with his father in Costa Rica, although that remained uncertain as the faces of two of the three men in the photo had been obscured with emoticons.

A curious thing about the post was the image's caption, in Spanish, which translated to: "Pleased to be here, you already know with whom."

Now, a report from Breitbart News implies that this may be related to recent news indicating how assassins are traveling to the country to be trained by members of the drug cartel.

According to Breitbart, the drug cartel kingpin is known to have at least nine children, which includes three with his first spouse, four with the second and one set of twins with his current wife, the former beauty queen, Emma Coronel.

The outlet noted how Coronel's whereabouts have become one of the major subjects of scrutiny, as she is known to be meeting in secret with the wanted drug lord.

In February 2014, the former beauty queen and her twins were at a condominium in Mazatlan, Mexico, where her fugitive husband was later captured while in their company.

Authorities are now monitoring San Carlos for signs of the kingpin's presence.

Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzmán escaped imprisonment this past July, which was caught on camera and featured in a CNN report.

He did it by "slipping through a perfectly placed hole in the blind spot of a lone security camera," the Business Insider described.

After that, he reportedly used a $50 million-worth custom-built maze below his L-shaped prison cell in Altiplano and travelled to freedom through the mile-long labyrinth.
