Production for ABC's "Fear the Walking Dead" has kicked off in the Baja peninsula in Mexico.

The production's Baja Studios location was also the filming site of Hollywood movies, such as "Titanic" and "Master and Commander," Comicbook.com reported.

"We are thrilled to be starting production and even more thrilled to be shooting in Mexico. Baja Studios has been home to some of the greatest ocean-set films in recent years and provides all the creative resources we need to begin this new chapter in the Fear saga. We couldn't be happier," said showrunner and executive producer Dave Erickson, as quoted in Comicbook.com's report.

The companion series to "The Walking Dead" scored the highest rating debut season among any other series in cable history, the news outlet noted. "Fear the Walking Dead," also executive produced by Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero, and David Alpert, will return with 15 episodes for its second season next spring.

Season 1's conclusion saw Madison (Kim Dickens), Travis (Cliff Curtis), and their extended family taking temporary refuge in Strand's (Colman Domingo) gated property overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Comicbook.com wrote. With the civilian chaos and the dead pervading Los Angeles, Strand prepares to escape using Abigail, his huge yacht anchored offshore.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter after the first season's finale, Erickson revealed that upcoming episodes will take place on both land and sea.

"We end on one boat and the ocean beyond, but what we'll come to realize - and this will be part of what the military is doing - you'll see that land is no longer safe," he shared to the news outlet. "At least not in Southern California. Some people have not been quarantined or driven north or south. But there's thousands of boats through L.A. County. So a lot of people will stock up the boats and try to get to the water and avoid land as much as humanly possible. You'll see a lot of people trying to survive."

Erickson continued, "If you look at Strand's yacht, it's a pretty handsome vessel. It's something that you can survive on for a good period of time, and that's something others might covet. So when you get to the question of what's worse, walker or human, we'll continue that theme. There will be quite a bit of action on the seas - and we'll split it between land and water. But it's going to be an interesting dynamic."

This week, THR announced that Domingo has been promoted as a series regular. Other cast members include Frank Dillane (Nick), Alycia Debnam-Carey (Alicia), Ruben Blades (Daniel), Mercedes Mason (Ofelia), and Lorenzo James Henrie (Chris).
