With the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air expected to come by next year, a recent rumour surfaced that the 11-inch variant will be discontinued by Apple.

MacWorld explained that there is a big chance that the company will drop the 11-inch MacBook Air and make the recently launched 12-inch display as the baseline or starting point of this laptop line.

It noted that the Retina MacBook was launched earlier this March, creating a new line for Apple. But the Air did not get eliminated. Instead, it received "an update, with new, faster processors, faster flash storage and better graphics, but the screen and overall design remained the same."

Meanwhile, Vine Report, quoting Korea's Economic Daily News, noted that the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air are expected to be slimmer and with redesigned internal parts. The change in the internal makeup of these laptops are believed to be the contributing factor for it being more slim and lightweight.

But despite the anticipation of these upcoming releases, Vine Report said there is still the possibility that the Air line will be dropped by Apple altogether, especially with the introduction of new laptop models.

Kantar WorldPanel Comtech chief of research, Carolina Milanesi, agreed noting that the contraction of an Apple lineup is not far from happening.

"All [notebooks] need to be more mobile, so something like the Air doesn't need to be branched out anymore. And it's to Apple's benefit not to have so many 'families' of Macs," Milanesi added in the MacWorld report.

These rumors have yet to be confirmed by the company and until official word is out, fans can still look forward to the coming of new MacBook Air laptops.

When they become available next year, Yibada noted that the 2016 MacBook Air device will have the OS X El Capitan, a Force Touch technology and an Intel Skylake-U chipset.

It also added that the upcoming devices will come with a USB Type-C support and a better battery life.

On the other hand, Times of India explained that the release of these new laptops could have been delayed so that its launch will not "overshadow" the release of the iPad Pro.

Aside from the coming of the 2016 MacBook Air, Yibada noted that Apple could also launch a new laptop with a solar-powered display.

"Back in Jan 2013, the tech giant was granted a patent that described a method for harnessing light from the sun to illuminate a display of MacBook. This patent is in fact the 7th solar-related patent the tech company has gained in the last 2 years," noted Yibada.
