Real Madrid could possibly face expulsion from Copa Del Rey after it fielded player Denis Cheryshev, who made the first goal in their 3-1 win versus Cadiz on Wednesday night.
Telegraph said the winger was taken out of the game when his team realized that he was not eligible to play, since he is facing a ban "after being shown a third yellow card playing for Villarreal in the competition last season and failing to serve his suspension."
Real Madrid coach, Rafa Benitez, said they only found out at half-time about the mistake and that they immediately pulled him out to do the right thing.
After he was taken out and substituted at half time, Isco was able to score twice for Real against their opponent, who also managed to make a goal in the latter part of the game through Enrique Marquez.
Daily Mail said the Andalusian side president, Manuel Vizcaino, confirmed that his club will complain about the incident and that it could possibly lead to the elimination of the Spanish team.
The same report noted that Osasuna was removed from the competition last September after it allowed suspended player, Unai Garcia, to play.
"The circumstances require a quick decision and the Cadiz board has decided to report Madrid for fielding an ineligible player. We have full respect for Madrid but we have taken this decision because we feel it is right for the fans," Vizcaino said in the Daily Mail report.
Meanwhile, Real director, Emilio Butragueno, said their fate will be decided by a judge.
"Nobody at the club was informed by the federation, we received nothing from Villarreal and Cheryshev didn't know about the ban. We will look into the details fully but I repeat we had no knowledge that he could be suspended. We will study the situation with our legal team and in the end see what the judge decides," Butragueno explained.
It was added in a SkySports report that Cheryshev is player on loan at Villarreal when he was booked for a third time in a Barcelona defeat in March.
Meanwhile, Al Jazeera said that the potential disqualification puts more pressure on Real Madrid, who previously lost to FC Barcelona in La Liga last month. The team is also six points behind their biggest rival in the standings after playing 13 games.
With threats of being taken out of the game, Real Madrid maintained that they were not informed of the Russian winger's status and are sure to contest any decision or ruling for the violation.
