iOS vs. Android vs. Windows Phone Market Share 2013 in USA: Google Defeats Apple Inc. in Smartphone OS; Windows Phone Gains, Says Kantar

The latest three-month period ending in November 2013 proved to be a dark time for Apple Inc. in terms of smartphone market share figures.

According to the latest data released by Kantar Worldpanel, Apple lost its first place title as the top smartphone operating system in the United States.

The iOS platform fell by 9.9 percentage points when comparing the three months ending in November 2013 and the same period in 2012. The iOS platform finished second with 43.1 percent, which is down from the 53 percent in 2012.

Apple's loss was Google and Microsoft's gain.

Google improved its rank to first place with an 8 percentage point increase. The Android mobile operating system was previously at second place with 42.3 percent during the three months ending in November 2012 but finished the same period in 2013 with 50.3 percent.

Microsoft's Windows Phone was the second mobile operating system to encounter an increase with their market share. Windows Phone increased its market share by 2.1 percentage points. With the percentage increase, Windows Phone finished November 2013 with 4.7 percent, which is up from the 2.6 percent in 2012.

BlackBerry maintained fourth place. BlackBerry saw the second-highest market share percentage loss behind iOS with 0.7 percentage points. BlackBerry accounted for 0.6 percent of the mobile operating system market share by the time November 2013 finished, which is down from 1.3 percent from the same period in 2012.
