Google's new Android-powered phablet is being touted as a more superior device than the Samsung Galaxy Note 5.
The Huawei Mate 8 was announced this week, equipped with specifications that are great improvements from both the Mate S and Mate 7's, AnandTech wrote. With its 6-inch screen size, the Mate 8 comes as another competition for the Galaxy Note 5. Here's how the two phablets compare with one another.
Design and Display
The Mate 8 has a 1080 x 1920p JDI IPS-Neo LCD display, weighs 185g, and bears a dimension of 157.1 (h) x 80.6 (w) x 7.9 (d) mm, AnandTech listed. It has a larger curve on its back that results in thinner edges, making the device easier to hold. On the bottom lies the speaker, just like the Mate S.
The Mate 8 comes in Champagne Gold, Moonlight Silver, Space Gray, and Mocha Brown color variants, GSM Arena added.
The Galaxy Note 5, in contrast, has a 5.7-inch screen with 1440 x 2560p resolution, a separate report from GSM Arena said. The device weighs 171g and has a dimension of 153.2 x 76.1 x 7.6 mm. Customers can choose from Black Sapphire, Gold Platinum, Silver Titan, and White Pearl color variants when purchasing the device.
Processor, Operating System, Camera, and Battery
Huawei's new flagship device is powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 950 chipset and the Android 6.0 Marshmallow serving as its operating system, AnandTech noted. Providing the phablet's juice is a 4000 mAh battery, which can charge up to 37% in just 30 minutes.
As for its camera, the Mate 8 is equipped with a 16MP primary shooter bearing the IMX298, Sony's new sensor module, the news outlet reported. The device also bears an 8MP front-facing camera. Just like any other up-to-date smartphones, the Mate 8 has a fingerprint sensor feature for better security.
Powering the Galaxy Note 5 is the Exynos 7420 chipset, Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, and a 3000 mAh battery, GSM Arena reported. It has a 16MP primary camera and a 5MP front-facing shooter.
Samsung's official site claimed that the Galaxy Note 5 can be fully charged in 120 minutes. It is also equipped with wireless charging for trips away from home. There's the S Pen as well for precise screen writing that feels like an actual pen.
Price
The Mate 8 model with 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage is priced at $479, the 4GB + 64GB variant at $591, and the 4GB + 128GB version can be bought for $703, AnandTech listed.
The Galaxy Note 5 can be purchased for as low as $670, CNET reported.
