"Guardians of the Galaxy 2" is making rounds all over the Internet again as a new speculation about the true identity of the non-human father of the team's leader, Peter Quill, emerges.
The movie's sequel, which is set for theatrical release on May 5, 2017, was described by showrunner James Gunn as a "story about fathers" in an interview with Vulture.
"There's a lot of stuff I'm excited about in the new movie. Listen, I'm still excited about Star-Lord's character and where he goes. At its heart, Guardians is a story about families, and if the first film was about him and his mother, this is a story about fathers. So it's exciting to go there," he told the outlet.
One specific character's father that many are excited to meet is that of Quill, who is also known as "Star Lord."
When Quill and his friends wielded the power of one of the Infinity Stones called "The Power Gem" without getting eradicated, the Nova Corps were mystified since it was a very rare case.
In the first installment of the intergalactic team of unlikely heroes, Chris Pratt's character Peter Quill, found out from body analysis conducted by the Nova Corps that he is not entirely human.
In fact, the Corps' leader Nova Prime Irani Rael believe that the blood of an ancient mysterious race, which has not been around for a very long time, is running in Peter Quill's veins.
Speculation as to who exactly his father is then flooded the Internet, including one that was fueled by a statement from Bradley Cooper, who voiced Rocket Raccoon.
"I don't know anything. But Josh Brolin's the villain, no? Or he's the main villain, no? He was in the first one, he played whatshisname's Dad. You know who I'm talking about? The Dark-Lord... the main guy," he told MTV.
Unfortunately, this was immediately debunked by Gunn himself, who posted on Twitter how Cooper did not reveal anything about the sequel since he had just received the script when the interview was conducted.
Now, a new theory has emerged, pegging Quill as the son of the powerful Marvel hero, Captain Marvel per Heroic Hollywood, which cited four "independent sources."
According to the outlet's founder and Editor-In-Chief Umberto Gonzalez, the Captain Marvel that the "Guardians" director referred to when he debunked the theory was Carol Danvers and not the Silver Age "Captain Marvell" that their sources believe to be Quill's alien father.
This version is male and a Kree warrior who came to Earth to determine if the planet and its inhabitants are to be considered a threat to the Kree Empire.
