It's a trend among smartphone manufacturers these days to offer different variations of what visually seems the same thing -- Apple's iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, Samsung's Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge... you get the picture.
Of course, there will always be differences, and every tiny detail counts, especially considering that many live out of their phones nowadays.
For HTC, there's the HTC One M9 and HTC One M9S. Neuro Gadget noted that both gadgets look virtually alike, with their curved metal bodies, thin stripes at the back top and bottom, and rear cameras that have either square or round lenses.
Their biggest differences, however, are inside, with their processors and softwares. Here's a lowdown on which of the M9 or M9S is a better value for the money:
Design and Display
Both devices measure 144.6×69.7×9.6mm, but the M9 weighs 157 grams, while the M9S weighs an entire gram heavier at 158 grams.
Both phones come with dual front-facing speakers with Dolby Audio and Boom Sound Technology. Neither has a home button.
The M9 comes in Gunmetal Gray, Amber Gold, Silver/Rose gold, Gold/Pink and Pink. The M9S, however, comes in only one color: Dazzling Gold.
Hardware
The One M9 has a powerful Qualcomm MSM8994 Snapdragon 810 octa core processor with four cores at 1.5GHz and four cores at 2GHz. It's fast and powerful, backed with 3GB of RAM and an internal memory of 16GB that can be extended up to 200GB. The problem? Overheating issues, reportedly.
The One M9s, on the other hand, has a weaker 64bit processor: a Mediatek MT6795 Helio X10 with eight cores at 2.2GHz. However, it does have good PowerVR G5200 graphics, 2GB of RAM, and a 16GB memory that can also be expanded up to 200GB.
Camera and Batteries
Both the One M9 and One M9S have 4MP Ultrapixel cameras, capable of recording full HD videos at 30fps with HDR.
Their difference? The One M9 has a powerful 20MP camera which supports autofocus, dual-LED flash, and 4K video recording.
The One M9S, on the other hand, has a 13MP primary camera with Full HD video recording capacity, and supports optical image stabilization.
If you're concern is the life of the batteries, you can take equivalent number of pictures for both -- they both have the same non-removable 2840 mAh power juice.
Finally, for the price: The M9S, which is the more budget-friendly version, costs $390, while the flagship One M9 costs relatively more, priced at $465 on Amazon.
So which one do you want to have?
