A top Sony executive has asked fans to be patient while waiting for the PlayStation 4 to be available at retail locations.

Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Worldwide Studios, took to Twitter to address complaints about the lack of availability that has plagued the PlayStation 4. When one fan asked Yoshida for advice for finding the PlayStation 4, the executive merely responded that the fan should "be patient."

While the Xbox One is now available at several retailers as well as online, the PlayStation 4 is sold out in most locations. Sony stated in the past that the PlayStation 4 will be "supply challenged" and that Sony will release periodic shipments of the console in the first several months of 2014 until they are able to get a steadier supply established. It is unclear if this lack of supply has prevented Sony from hitting their intended goal of selling 3 million consoles before the end of 2013.

At the same time that Yoshida is assuring gamers that the PlayStation 4 will be coming to retailers, a new patent has surfaced that could help Sony change their classic games. The patent is for technology that would allow classic games to be streamed to the PlayStation 4, and from there developers could pause the emulated game and add new content without having to reverse engineer code for the game. This would allow developers to quickly add new content to classic games to make them new again.

"Finding new ways to play preexisting video games can increase the longevity of older games. Instead of replaying the same level or completing the same missions repeatedly, gamers often desire new challenges when replaying legacy games. In response to this need, game designers have begun to produce mini-games. Within a mini-game, the gamer can be instructed to complete new objectives or challenge their friends for high scores in a format that was not originally designed into the legacy game," states the patent. 

This could lead to a similar game as the recently released NES Remix game for the Wii U. This new game allows several Nintendo titles such as Donkey Kong and The Legend of Zelda to have new content included and remixed in different ways.
