It was a frustrating Sunday night game for New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman as he had to leave the first quarter of the game versus the New York Giants due to a foot injury.
ESPN said the wide receiver was able to "convert a first down with a 12-yard catch-and-run play on third-and-4" in their win versus the Giants prior to him being tackled by linebacker Jasper Brinkley causing the injury.
It also noted that the player was extremely disappointed with what happened to him that he slammed his helmet to the ground as a medical team checked his condition.
Meanwhile, Boston Herald said the Patriots are hoping that Edelman can return during the playoffs.
"Julian is one of our best players. I don't know the extent of his injury, but he'll be back," said receiver Danny Amendola in the same report.
The wide receiver is a great help for the team recording 61 receptions for 692 yards and seven touchdowns for 2015.
Patriots' Rob Gronkowski added that Edelman is a big part of their offense.
"Hopefully, he comes back ASAP," Gronkowski added.
ESPN's Adam Schefter mentioned in a tweet that the wide receiver is set to undergo a procedure for his injury.
"Julian Edelman will undergo surgery Monday for a broken bone in his foot, per source. There is hope he will return this season, per sources," tweeted the NFL Insider for ESPN.
The receiver's injury is another addition to the team's long list of players who are unable to participate in the games due to injuries. These players include left tackle Nate Solder, offensive lineman Ryan Wendell, cornerback Tarell Brown and running back Dion Lewis.
"We've got to find different ways. Guys stepped in there when Julian got hurt. We're down a bunch of tackles. Guys are playing out of position. I just think we keep grinding our way through it. We've got to find different ways to win," Patriots quarterback Tom Brady told Boston Herald.
With Edelman's absence, SB Nation said the Patriots will count on Amendola and Brandon LaFell since they have both made great contributions to the team.
It noted that Amendola was able to catch 30 passes for 324 yards for this year while LaFell recorded 174 yards.
"The Patriots will likely go with two tight ends even more than usual with Edelman on the sideline," added SB Nation.
It may take a while before the wide receiver returns and the Patriots are certainly hoping that they can use the remaining talent they have on their team to compensate for his loss.
