The "Suicide Squad" showrunner aims for PG-13 rating contrary to expectations that the villain-centric movie would be restricted to adult viewers only.

In a recent interview with Collider, "Suicide Squad" producer Charles Roven revealed that they want the film to be available to be viewed by young adults despite having violent villains in the forefront.

"The intention of the film is definitely to be PG-13..." he started, explaining that he, Warner Bros. Studios and director David Ayer wants the film to be "totally consistent" with the shared DC Cinematic Universe.

"It's also a creative endeavor, so you want to leave yourself open to changing your mind, doing
something different, being inspired, that's the whole process of filmmaking is you have to allow for inspiration as well as having a road map for what you're gonna do," he added.

Cinema Blend notes that such goal would mean there would be a certain limit to the blood, gore and cursing in the "Suicide Squad," making it a PG-13 movie is not so bad a choice since the film is basically part of the DC Extended Universe which caters the younger generations.

"From a marketing standpoint, this movie is a part of the DC Extended Universe, so Warner Bros. wants younger viewers to be able to watch it and keep track of how it's connected to the franchise's other entries," the report explained.

Still, it is quite difficult to imagine how the movie would turn out especially since the trailer made it look like a dark flick about jailed murderers and criminals who are released to work on a mission for the government.

This means there would still be moments of violence and gore especially since Jared Leto's version of The Joker seems to be a bit twisted to be child-friendly based on teasers and photos released. To remedy this, Collider thinks there might be some possibility that home videos of the film would be released with an "unrated" option.

Either way, Roven still believes that the characters' "abulously different arcs" is enough to keep things interesting for viewers to be "engaged with them."

"They're all very individualistic, and I think that also they're very, very human in their own dysfunctional ways. And I think that the personal individuals stories and how they relate to each other will be surprising," Roven added.

Since it has a big budget and involves A-list stars like Leto, Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Scott Eastwood, Viola Davis among others, the "Suicide Squad" would most likely be a hit upon its release on August 5, 2016.
