Blackberry has been known for its resiliency. There are reports that the brand is currently working on a second Android phone known only by its codename: Blackberry Vienna. How will this fare in the competitive market of today? Will it measure up against Blackberry Priv?
While Blackberrys have been scoffed the world over for being "boring phones" the brand has taken strides into making improvements for its smartphone offerings to please the markets. The result of this was the brand's first Android phone, the Blackberry PRIV. How will the second Android phone measure up to the first?
According to a report with Tech Times, Blackberry's newest Android offering will be similar to the traditional Blackberry phones of old with the ever-present QWERTY keyboard, which has become rare to non-existent in smartphones nowadays. However, the pictures suggest that Blackberry Vienna seems to do away with the slider keyboard in favor of BlackBerry's iconic design.
Additionally, Vienna has also adapted to the times and taking on the slim build of the previous Blackberry phones, such as the Blackberry Z10. The Blackberry Vienna will also adapt a taller build to accommodate the touch screen display.
The Blackberry Priv was touted as a "refreshing take on Android" for people who still love the feel of keyboards when using their smartphones. According to Digitial Times, the newest Blackberry will add a brilliant and elegant metal finish to its smartphone. The phone will be available in silver, black, dark blue, dark green and red. Additionally, Blackberry Vienna may also use capacitive buttons instead of the software buttons found on the Priv. By the looks of the leaked pictures, a front-facing mono speaker will be on front of the phone, as well as a front-facing camera.
While the Blackberry Priv had an 18-megapixel camera, it is still too early to tell what camera the Blackberry Vienna might have. Rumors have said that the upcoming smartphone will sport a 13-megapixel camera similar to many mid-range Android phones.
The Blackberry Priv was marketed as a flagship phone so the upcoming Blackberry Vienna will most likely be a mid-tier phone. Fresh out of the box, the Vienna will run on Android 6.0 or Android Lollipop depending on the date of release.
As of the moment, there is no definite price for the Vienna, but it is speculated that it should go less than $700. The other specs, as well as a release date have not been confirmed as of now. Updates should be available in the weeks to come.
