Bob Newhart will once again join "The Big Bang Theory" in its ninth year as the ghostly Jedi, Arthur Jeffries, who is set to help Sheldon Cooper make "an important decision."
According to TV Line, Jim Parson's character is set to "sort out his feelings" in order to reach a conclusion about a certain decision he has to make. With that, Sheldon will be needing help from "The Force" and his childhood hero Arthur Jeffries played by the Emmy award winning actor.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the ninth season of the show sees Sheldon at a difficult state as he struggles after his breakup with long-time girlfriend Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik).
As the show's new season progresses, Sheldon's position seems to become more heartbreaking with the emergence of an engagement ring in his possession which he planned to use to propose.
Based on the THR report, the "very important decision" Newhart's character is supposed to aid the main character with is related to this instance.
TV Line revealed that Newhart's Arthur Fries will be appearing in the CBS show for the fourth time on December 17, on the eve of the release of the upcoming film "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
The ghostly Jedi first appeared in the show in 2013's TBBT episode titled "The Proton Resurgence" which earned the comedian his first Primetime Emmy Award.
Before season 9 began airing, TBBT showrunner Steve Molaro declared that the show's door is always open for Newhart as he did back in season 7.
"That is something that has been in the back of my mind. And that's something that I hope will work out. We adore Bob and we are so proud that he is a member of our family and yes, somewhere in here is a fantastic opportunity for that," he told THR when asked about the possible return of the actor back in September.
For those who do not know or have yet to catch up on episodes of the show, Newhart's character is a former children's science show host known to demonstrate scientific principles in simple, everyday objects.
Because of him, Sheldon and his best friend Leonard studied hard to become scientists, as a surefire way of becoming their childhood hero. Even after learning that he already passed away, Arthur Fries remained in Sheldon's mind as a Jedi Master, something Molaro described to be the device which makes him stay with the show "forever."
"The Big Bang Theory" airs every Thursday at 8 p.m. on CBS.
