The year 2016 is fast approaching and mobile fans are expecting nothing but the best from smartphones expected to come out next year.

Here are some of the most futuristic handsets expected to be released next year:

1. iPhone 7

According to Tekz, Apple is anticipated to launch a more high-end device in the iPhone 7 by 2016 which will reportedly be available first in countries such as the United States, China, Australia, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Japan, France, Germany, Puerto Rico, Singapore and Hong Kong.

ValueWalk earlier said that users are now expecting a full HD smartphone in the iPhone 7.

"The next generation iPhone 7 should certainly deliver improved screen resolutions, as Apple looks to update the iPhone range to full HD and quad HD respectively," added the same report.

2. Galaxy S7

A lower-priced Galaxy S7 is said to be coming next year, as per CNet,

"The company could price the Galaxy S7 around 10 percent lower than its Galaxy S6," the report added.

It noted that Samsung could launch this upcoming phone in January so that it can compete with Apple's latest releases.

3. LG G5

TechRadar states that the LG G5 is rumored to come with a Snapdragon 820 processor and a 20 MP camera. Another expected feature of the handset is a fingerprint scanner which could prove useful for a lot of users.

The report adds that the device could also sport an "all-metal" build, since LG bid goodbye to plastic material when they released the G4.

The leather choice for the current release reportedly "felt cheap, looked odd and wasn't anywhere near as visually pleasing as the metal HTC One M9 or iPhone 6."

Meanwhile, PC Advisor noted that the LG G5 may also come with a bigger 5.6-inch screen with 4K resolution. A bigger screen will give the tech company an edge when competing with other big names on the market like Apple and Samsung.

4. Sony Xpeia Z6

Expected to be revealed in March 2016, the Xperia Z6 will reportedly come with a 5.5-inch IPS Triluminos display with 4K Resolution, as per Android Standard.

The upcoming Xperia instalment is also believed to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset.

As for the camera, Android Standard said it the Z6 may come with a 30 MP main camera with LED flash and an 8 MP front shooter.

5. OnePlus Three

According to a separate TechRadar report, the upcoming OnePlus instalment is hoped to come with near field communication (NFC) since the OnePlus 2 did not have it. The phone is also believed to have a quick charging feature when it comes out in the market.

6. Xiaomi Mi6
