While many of the 2K sports game have been met with critical and commercial success, NBA 2K14 has managed to become a broken game with many different problems cropping up since the game was released.

The latest problem from the game stems from 2K Sports' Ronnie Singh releasing a code on Twitter for a pre-game player animation. This special code was offered as an apology for the fact that the game's servers were down recently, making it so player's could not play the game online. However, when people tried to redeem the code in the game, the servers for the game on the PlayStation 4 were down again, thus making it so players were locked out of this special event.

This kind of mistake sums of the experience of trying to play NBA 2K14. The game has dealt with broken online codes before, and many gamers are upset that they have not been able to redeem these codes. Another issue is that the in-game economy is not balanced well. This leads to many different items being locked out for many players unless they devote themselves to unlocking them. The game's virtual currency, especially in the MyTeam mode (in which players build up a team based on card packs they buy with the currency) leaves it so users are constantly bombarded by offers to buy the packs with real-world money, thus breaking the game by allowing users to spend money to create a team.

Another big problem in the game is that the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game create online save files even for offline modes in NBA 2K14. This means that if the game's servers are done players can be locked out of their offline progress as well unless they set it up so that there save files are put offline as well. This is compounded by the fact that, even though several patches have been released for the game since launch, new problems keep cropping up. For example, the newest patch released for the game after Christmas lead to a new glitch being put in the Xbox One version of the game that prevent users from playing against their friends in the MyGM career mode.

Hopefully NBA 2K14 is able to overcome these obstacles and become the game that fans have hoped that would be. With NBA Live also being panned by gamers, there is a distinct lack of quality basketball titles available on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
