WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins injured his right knee in a Dublin, Ireland event forcing him to forfeit his title.

In an announcement on Thursday, the WWE said Rollins tore his right ACL, MCL and medial meniscus, making him unable to defend his current title in a match versus Roman Reigns during the Survivor Series.

Due to his condition, it is expected that a new champion will be hailed during the event on November 22 which will air live on the WWE Network.

ESPN's Jonathan Coachman said on his Twitter account that Rollins is expected to miss six to nine months of WWE action because of the injury.

The WWE champ, as per CBS Sports, has reportedly defended his title after he claimed it during WrestleMania 31.

"[He] has defended it often on television and pay-per-view events over the last eight months as he's been moved into position as one of the company's primary superstars," added the same report.

A similar Mirror report added that Rollins also "cashed in his Money In The Bank briefcase," which assured him a title opportunity anytime, anywhere.

"And he stunned more than 76,000 fans in the Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California by pinning Reigns and winning the championship for the first time," added Mirror.

After this victory, he also claimed wins versus some of WWE's biggest names like Randy Orton, Dean Ambrose, Brock Lesnar, John Cena, Sting and Kane.

With this injury, Forbes dished that it can affect not only the Survivor Series but also Wrestlemania 32, including the main event of Undertaker and Sting.

"WWE has been subtly building towards an iconic showdown between the Undertaker and Sting at WrestleMania 32, a dream match that fans have clamored for for over a decade, and the seeds were likely to be planted at Survivor Series. This would all hinge on the health of Sting," explained the same report.

It added that Rollins' sustained injury could effect some changes on what will happen to Undertaker in the WWE.

Meanwhile, WhatCulture discussed Rollins may need until summer to fully recover and return to the matches.

The same report noted that it could be a great surprise for him to show up in the Money in the Bank match next year.

Fans are hoping that something would be exciting when Rollins return inside the ring.

"There's definitely something exciting about the thought of him once again holding the Money in the Bank briefcase. Rollins being part of the ladder match for the title would be great though as he'd no doubt steal the show, going on to pull the belt down much to the delight of fans," added WhatCulture.
