Adriana Campos and her husband, Carlos Rincón, were killed in a car crash.
The Colombian telenovela star and the businessman died on Tuesday, Nov. 3 while driving in Colombia, local news outlet Noticias RCN reported, as translated by Latin Times. The couple was reportedly driving southwest of the country's Department of Antioquia when Rincón lost control of the car. The vehicle fell into the Cauca River.
As translated by The Hollywood Reporter, El Tiempo reported that Campos and Rincón were found dead trapped inside the car.
Campos and Rincón got married in 2004, Latin Times noted. They left behind their 1-year-old son. The Hollywood Reporter added that the child was being looked after by his grandmother at the time of his parents' accident.
A separate report from Latin Times from El Tiempo theorized that Rincón fell asleep behind the wheel, causing the vehicle to lose control and fall in the water. "When he woke up, it was too late to control the car," Major Andrés Gómez of Seccional de Tránsito y Transporte de Antioquia told the publication.
Another theory from Gomez said that the accident was caused by a possible mechanical manipulation, Latin Times added. Despite the initial belief that the couple drowned, other publications report that the two could have died from their severe fractures.
People on the Internet, however, think otherwise. Some of them ruled out the deaths as an accident, but as an act of homicide.
"Accidents. No such thing as accidents. Especially in Colombia," said one Facebook user quoted by Latin Times. "This was a lovely couple that was killed in an 'accident'? It's Colombia . . . not the safest place in the world. I hope this is investigated, although I don't think it will be," commented another reader of the news outlet.
According to Campos' obituary published on Legacy.com, the actress was nominated at the Premios TV y Novelas twice: first for the Best Supporting Actress Award as Nicol Aguilar in "Vecinos" and second for Best Antagonist as Pricila Cardona in "Bella Calamidades." Campos, who hailed from Chaparral, Colombia, was 36 years old.
In 2010, Campos dated actor Mauricio Ochmann, whom she worked with in the well-known 2007 Telemundo soap opera, "Victoria," Latin Times reported from TV y Novelas. The former couple was expecting their first child together, but the baby didn't survive due to complications.
Campos' body will reportedly be taken to Bogotá to be buried there, while Rincón's will be in Campos de Paz, Colombia, Latin Times further reported.
