No new console has been released for Nintendo but gamers are currently anticipating an upcoming new model that has been rumored to be scheduled for release before the end of 2016.
About eight months ago, a report from Kotaku revealed how EB Games Australia's Facebook page confirmed an upcoming new console from Nintendo.
"Nintendo have confirmed they're developing a dedicated gaming platform with the codename NX! They've said more info will come next year. The NX is now available for preorder instore," the post read.
While the post says that the device can already be pre-ordered online, there have been no official announcement on when the actual console will hit the stores or what it actually is yet.
The Wall Stree Journal, on the other hand, says that the Nintendo NX would be a console/mobile hydrid though that has not been confirmed yet.
However, a more recent report from Christian Today cited rumors that claim how the new Nintendo console has been set to be launched next year.
Proof of this is the Wall Street Journal report which indicates that the company is already distributing software kits for developers who wish to join the rumored launch.
According to the outlet, the kit would be used to modify existing games to make it compatible to a particular platform.
"We are increasingly of the idea that Nintendo might launch the NX in 2016 because of the softness of 3DS and Wii U," Macquarie Capital Securities analyst David Gibson told WSJ.
The report further cited a spokesperson from Nintendo who revealed that plans for the NX would be disclosed next year.
Aside from that, several game developers such as Square Enix Co. and Electronic Arts (EA) have already expressed their intention to invest on the Nintendo NX.
For those who are not aware, EA did not support Nintendo's Wii U which was released in 2013.
But for some reason, EA CEO Andrew Wilson is now expressing the company's intent to evaluate "any and all opportunities" relative to Nintendo's upcoming new console.
"I'm going to address that slightly differently. As we look to the future, we see a world where more people are playing on more platforms in more geographies than ever before," the CEO began.
He then moved on to explain how the company is "investing at a core digital platform level, at an engine level, and at a game architecture level" to make sure that they deliver an impressive gaming experience.
Wilson also cited the company's history with Nintendo, explaining how they "had a tremendous relationship over the years."
"We will evaluate any and all opportunities with them in the same way we do all platform opportunities," he continued.
