The Android Marshmallow is jam-packed with new features, but while it is already out for several devices such as the Nexus 5,6,7, and 9, as well as the Nexus Player, the worldwide update is yet to be released.
There are definitely a lot of perks for the Marshmallow. Among the ones pointed out by Forbes include longer battery life, better app permission controls, and even standardized fingerprint scanners for added security.
And then there are the volume controls, USB-C support, and even the Google Now features that makes it an interesting upgrade for Android users.
While all of these updates are well and good, the release date is a bit complicated. Yes, the Marshmallow has already launched, but that doesn't mean the majority has access to it. As noted by Tech Radar, it is for device manufacturers to decide when they will add it to the roster. The outlet pointed out that in the US, carriers usually spend a lot of time with new software before including it into their own gadgets.
Nexus has already added the Marshmallow software and other manufacturers, like Motorola, are likely to roll it out soon. However, not the same can be said of other brands.
However, here is a lowdown when it might be appearing on your favorite brand of handset, based on their previous rollouts:
Samsung - the Galaxy Note 5 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge are not shipping with Marshmallow yet, which means that they're also going to be due for upgrades. Users may not have to wait too long, though, as based on the Lollipop, Samsung was pretty rapid about the rollout of the software, so they might do the same with the Marshmallow. Unfortunately there is no solid date, at which point, "soon" is the best you can hope for.
HTC - the brand tweeted that the phones will be getting updates, so there's hope that they can roll out the Marshmallow by the end of the year. But then again, the HTC One M9 and HTC One M8 already confirmed that they will be seeing the release of the software, which means that it is likely HTC will stick to rolling out the Marshmallow before the year ends. If they don't change their mind, anyway.
Sony - the full list of phones getting the Marshmallow upgrade has already been released, and it included the Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 Premium, Sony Xperia Z3+, Sony Xperia Z3, Sony Xperia Z3 Compact, Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet and Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact.
Are you looking forward a Marshmallow update?
