It wasn't too long ago that reports about the LG G2 receiving Android 4.4 KitKat in Korea started hitting the technosphere, but it looks like there's some bad and good news associated with the rollout. The bad news? Looks like it was only a soak test. Good news? Android 4.4 KitKat should officially start releasing for all LG G2s in Korea during the first week of 2014.
A Korean news report seems to confirm that only 5 percent of LG G2s in Korea received the recently-released Android 4.4 KitKat. Soak tests are when the manufacturer pushes out a new firmware to a small number of users in order to see if any bugs arise.
Despite some users complaining about some battery and browser issues, it looks like the update still passed the soak test, and website Ubergizmo states that the LG G2 is now slated to receive Android 4.4 KitKat next week. For those counting, that would be during the first week of 2014.
It's important to remember that this timeframe won't apply to carrier-tied variants. Carriers, especially those in the United States, take longer to release new Android versions because the firmware has to go through an approval process during which it gets filled with carrier bloatware. It's certainly disheartening, but those with LG G2s tied to a carrier should still expect the upgrade to roll out sometime during the first couple months of 2014.
