It was a sweet victory for American professional stock car racing driver Jeff Gordon on Sunday at the Martinsville Speedway as this leads him to compete for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship.

ESPN said Gordon celebrated his ninth Martinsville victory by jumping on the track like a little boy who won his most precious toy.

"I don't know what it feels like to be a rock star, but that's as close as it can get. That's a rock star moment right there," the racer told ESPN.

For his win, it was noted that Gordon should be thankful to fellow racer Matt Kenseth, who "intentionally wrecked" Joey Logano's car as a means of revenge for a previous matchup.

"Logano had the dominant car, and Kenseth, who was in an earlier wreck with Brad Keselowski, came back on the track 10 laps down and drove Logano into the wall," added the ESPN report.

The NASCAR website noted that this was apparently Kenseth's payback for Logano after the latter knocked him out of the way in a Kansas race two weeks ago.

Of the 500 laps of the race, Logano led 207 and he was truly furious for the outcome with Kenseth possibly facing sanctions for his action.

The racer mentioned in the NASCAR website that what happened in Kansas was an entirely different thing.

"We were racing for the win, and he blocks you a few times, and then we raced hard and he blocked me the last time and we spun out. That's what happened there," Logano explained.

He noted that Sunday's incident was a "coward move" coming from his opponent.

"Just a complete coward. I don't have anything else to say. It's a chicken-you-know-what move to completely take out the leader when your race is over," he added.

NASCAR racing operations head Steve O'Donnell shared the same sentiment, tagging what happened as "disappointing."

"A driver that's not competing for a win, in fact, was many laps down when that happened, in our minds, that's a little bit different than two drivers really going after it coming out of Turn 4 for a win," O'Donnell said in the ESPN report.

But despite the issues if the race, Gordon is genuinely happy for this victory. "Oh my gosh, I didn't think they could get any better, but to win here at Martinsville in front of this crowd that stuck around," Gordon mentioned in the Fox Sports report.

He added that it was almost unbelievable for him to clinch the said win.

"I feel like I'm dreaming right now. I'm afraid I'm going to wake up and this is not going to be true. We were just trying to do our best throughout the whole day," he added.
