Due to operating a vehicle while impaired (OVI), Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett was slapped by his university with a one-game suspension.
USA Today reported that the decision came after the Columbus police cited the Ohio State Buckeyes player with a misdemeanor offense in a Saturday incident which happened at a checkpoint area of the campus.
In an initial report, Eleven Warriors said the 20-year-old player was noticed by the authorities when he tried to avoid the checkpoint in the area.
The quarterback reportedly failed a breathalyzer test conducted by the authorities then he was released to his teammate Cardale Jones after the incident.
"Per CPD sources, Barrett was cooperative and blew into a breathalyzer, registering slightly over Ohio's legal limit of 0.08 blood-alcohol concentration," added Eleven Warriors.
It was noted in the USA Today report that Coach Urban Meyer suspended Barrett for the Nov. 7 game of Ohio State versus Minnesota.
According to CNN, Barrett is a big man on his team since he is the current Big Ten Conference quarterback of the year with an 11-1 record when he was still a freshman.
Now a sophomore, the quarterback has been starting for the team prior to Ohio State's victory versus the Rutgers last week.
In 2014, Barrett already started playing as a quarterback but an ankle injury during a match versus Michigan affected his performance.
Despite this, CNN said he was still able to record 2,834 yards and 34 touchdowns. He is believed to return playing for Ohio State when it plays Illinois on Nov. 14.
Barrett still appears to be lucky since Eleven Warriors explained that his misdemeanor charge will not subject him to a mandatory two-week suspension.
"Because Barrett is not legally old enough to drink, he could have been subject to a two-week suspension based on Ohio State's student-athlete drug and alcohol policy," added USA Today.
Meyer is believed to hold the power if he will extend the suspension or will let it remain at a single game.
Fans are hoping that Barrett's suspension will not be stretched to two or more games since he is greatly needed by the team.
"Barrett's strong showing last weekend made it likely he'd keep his name atop the depth chart for the Minnesota game, but the incident pushes the team's quarterback situation back into turmoil," noted Bleacher Report expressing concern over the incident.
But now it seems that the quarterback will be off for only a game and return after he served his suspension.
