We've been hearing a lot about what the next-generation Samsung Galaxy S handset, the rumored Galaxy S5, will bring to the table in 2014, and it looks like the handset could pack more of a punch than originally speculated. A new rumor out of the technosphere states that the Galaxy S5 could sport 4GB of Samsung's new LPDDR4 RAM.

Initial reports and benchmarks indicated that the Samsung Galaxy S5 would ship with 3GB RAM, however, a new ITToday Korean news report states that the Galaxy S5 will sport 4GB of RAM. Samsung will apparently begin production of the new LPDDR4 RAM in early 2014, positioning it to be included in the Galaxy S5's hardware. LPDDR4 RAM provides boosts in almost all areas of performance, and 4GB would allow a 64-bit processor the kind of infrastructure it needs to really shine.

Still, it's not a 100 percent set in stone, and Samsung has not offered any official comments on the Galaxy S5, so be sure to treat the specs rumor with a grain of salt. The Galaxy S5 has been tipped multiple times for a late Q1 2014 launch (around a couple months before previous Galaxy S releases), and the inclusion of the LPDDR4 RAM could push that back by a month or two — we'll simply have to wait and see.

Other rumored specs for the Galaxy S5 include a 5.25-inch 2K HD display with a 2560X1440 resolution pushing out 560 pixels per inch, a 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor or a 64-bit Exynos processor depending on the region, a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 2-megapixel front shooter, and Android 4.4 KitKat. Samsung is also expected to release the Galaxy S5 in two main strains: a normal model with plastic shelling, and a premium version with a metal casing.
