The "Power Rangers" movie has its new Yellow Ranger/Trini in Becky G.

Lionsgate announced the casting news on Twitter and Instagram, Variety reported. The 18-year-old singer/songwriter, also known as Rebecca Marie Gomez, is the fifth casting in the film. She rounds up a cast composed of Naomi Scott (Pink Ranger/Kimberly), Dacre Montgomery (Red Ranger/Jason), R.J. Cyler (Blue Ranger/Billy), and Ludi Lin (Black Ranger/Zack).

Dean Israelite is directing the film from a script penned by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz. Serving as producers are Haim Saban, Brian Casentini, and Allison Shearmur, Variety wrote.

The movie is the reimagination of the origins of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a group of high school kids who uses their given extraterrestrial abilities to save the world, the news outlet added. The 1993 Fox Kids TV series' success gave way to a big screen adaptation in 1995 titled "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie."

News of the project was announced in 2014 by Lionsgate and Saban Brands, Variety noted. The project, based on Saban's Power Rangers property, is the first installment in the planned franchise.

In an interview with IGN in June, Israelite, who directed the found footage sci-fi thriller "Project Almanac," revealed that the upcoming "Power Rangers" movie will be "completely playful" and will be "really fun and funny."

The filmmaker continued, "But like 'Project Almanac,' I hope it's going to feel very grounded at the same time, and very contemporary and have a real edge to it, and a real gut to it. So I think it's going to be a fun, joyful [movie] but one that feels completely grounded in a real world, with real characters going through real things."

"Power Rangers" bows in theaters on Jan. 13, 2017.

Becky G Latest News

Gomez currently appears in Fox's "Empire" as Valentina Galindo. She and J Balvin recently wrapped their two-month "La Familia Tour," Latin Times reported. Gomez is also gearing up to release her upcoming album later this year.

Speaking to Marie Claire about the record in September, the Mexican-American songstress revealed that her new music will be "more pop-leaning" with an "urban element."

"That's me as a person. I'm always super happy, so there's going to be lots of energy. There are also some songs that are a little bit more heartfelt. I took a lot of time recording the vocals and really giving the songs what they deserve. Lyrically, it's either something that I went through personally or that somebody I know went through, so there's a lot of storytelling," she explained to Marie Claire.
