More news surface about the "Point Break" remake ahead of its Dec. 25 release.
The new version, which starred Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze in the 1991 original thriller, has a global eco-adventure setup, Fox News Latino reported. The Ericson Core-directed remake showcases Luke Bracey as a young FBI agent named Johnny Utah, who infiltrates a group of extreme-sports athletes allegedly committing high-risk crimes.
Édgar Ramírez stars as Bodhi, the leader of Utah's group described as "some kind of radical, Robin Hood eco-activist body following an Asian master in executing eight extreme stunts while also redistributing wealth to the poor," Los Angeles Times wrote.
"The shoot of this film changed my life," Venezuelan actor Ramírez said of the movie, as quoted by Fox News Latino. "Being in contact with the majesty of nature makes you appreciate life more and you want to live it to the max."
"Point Break" is packed with breathtaking action stunts performed by experts in big-wave surfing, wingsuit flights, extreme downhill snowboarding, free solo rock climbing, and motocross racing, Fox News Latino listed. Jeb Corliss, a BASE jumper and wingsuit pilot, executed majority of the movie's stunts, Los Angeles Times wrote.
CG-ish moments in the film show the characters jumping off mountains and flying together at lengthy distances, defying the laws of aerodynamics. Corliss said that until recently, he couldn't believe some of the stunts they did.
"Nothing like that's been done before. Not only were you proximity flying, which in itself is super gnarly and super dangerous, you have each of them doing the same thing, so the wingsuits create a vortex, which is also really dangerous. What's amazing about the footage is that it doesn't look real. But it is," Corliss explained, as quoted by the news outlet.
Corliss said that wingsuit-flying is one of the world's most dangerous sport and has claimed several dozen lives per year, Los Angeles Times noted.
Scenes in "Point Break" were filmed in Australia, Germany, Tahiti, Venezuela, and at Canaima National Park in the state of Bolivar, Fox News Latino added.
Core said that the original film's themes was "brought into the modern world" for the remake, according to Los Angeles Times. Ramírez added that the production "always feel the human spirit is threatened by power, by materialism, by accumulation," and that "the accumulation of materialism has led us to disaster," the news outlet added.
As for the difference between the original film and the remake, Core said that politics is the main distinguisher between the two. He noted the surge of political activism since the original, which was released during a period of post-Reagan excesses, Los Angeles Times noted.
