"Game of Thrones" fans have been awaiting what will happen next in the popular HBO fantasy-drama. Now that the tv series has already caught up with George RR Martin's books, what will happen next is anyone's guess.
Unfortunately, Entertainment Weekly announced that the series, which usually begins their season late March or early April, may be pushed back another month. The outlet said that with HBO's announcement of their February premiere dates, which included their late-winter shows, "Vinyl", "Girls" and "Togetherness", and "Game of Thrones" traditionally starts after these late winter-shows conclude.
With their late start in the year, it will mean that "Thrones" cannot return by early or mid-April, which means that it will be pushed for late-April if the late-winter shows run for 10 weeks straight, or May, if they have breaks at some point in their season.
However, entertainment Weekly did note that if "Thrones" is paired with some of the winter comedies for two weeks, it can return as early as April 17. However, considering that HBO is more likely to want to sync their spring drama and comedies to promote each other, it seems that fans are going to have to look for a "Thrones" series deeper into the summer months.
The Huffington Post noted that last year, "Thrones" was paired with "Silicon Valley" and "Veep", which means that at this point, fans shouldn't expect the show to be back until at least May 1, but with the network traditionally leaving a week between their "season", there is a big possibility that the show may not begin until May 8 or even later.
There is also another theory surrounding the premiere date of next season. As noted, Season 6 is the first that hasn't been covered in "A Series of Song and Fire" book series and there is no news yet when "The Winds of Winter" will be released. However, fans believe that the author is on the race to finish the book before the next season airs, and may be the reason for the HBO show's delay.
With Martin being very involved in the series, it is not unlikely that he told the producers to hold off on the series until the book has been released, so as not to ruin the experience for the book readers.
Until then, fans will have to make their own theories as to whether or not Jon Snow is really alive, or if Kit Harington just went to the filming locations to mess with the fans.
What do you think about the possible delay for the sixth season of "Game of Thrones"?
