It has been 3 years since Selena Gomez starred as Alex Russo in Disney Channel's teen sitcom "Wizards of Waverly Place". Since then the former Disney star has found stellar success in both music and film.
In a report with Variety, the "Same Old Love" singer will be back to the small screens to act as the executive producer in the YA dramatic miniseries, "13 Reasons Why". The premise of the 13-episode Netflix miniseries will be much different than the acting stints she had done before in "Neighbors 2" and "Hotel Transylvania".
The website says that the 13-episode series will be based on the 2007 Jay Asher novel of the same name which deals with the issue of teen suicide. The story revolves around a boy named Clay who is dealing with the untimely death of his classmate and crush Hannah Baker who had recently taken her life. He receives a box of cassette tapes from her with the instructions to deliver the tapes to twelve of her classmates on how they had played a part on her death by giving them "thirteen reasons why" she had killed herself.
The "Good for You" singer has taken on controversial roles following her shedding her Disney child star image in favor of a more mature one, the most recent one being the raunchy film "Spring Breakers" in 2013, in which she starred with fellow Disney star Vanessa Hudgens and James Franco in which she stars as Faith who travels with her friends for a wild vacation of partying, booze and sex..

According to Deadline, Gomez will be sharing the executive producer role with mother Mandy Teefey and producer Kristel Laiblin. This will mark Selena's first major executive producing credit although she did serve as executive producer during the Disney Channel original movie, "The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex" back in 2013.
Tony Award winner Brian Yorkey has worked on the pilot episode. As of now, the TV series has not been given a release date. The book also inspired the Thirteen Reasons Why Project, which is an online community where readers can share their thoughts on the story in an effort to address pressing issues such as bullying and teen suicide.
Selena Gomez has sold more than 22 million singles worldwide for her credit as a recording artist. Her recent album Revival hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
