Titanfall is already one of the most anticipated new IPs of the year, and developer Respawn Entertainment has just given us another reason to anticipate its arrival: sniper rifles will be available in the new game.
In the Respawn forums for the game, it was confirmed that sniper rifles will be available for players to use, but these weapons will be different from the way games typically use the long range weapons:
"Sniping is in the game, but due to how the game plays it's a pretty different animal than you'll find in your run of the mill modern military shooter. Quick-scoping and no-scoping are ineffective."
It is unclear how Respawn plans to modify their sniper rifles so that users are not able to take advantage of these common sniping strategies. Quick scoping and no-scoping are common strategies that online shooter fans use to manipulate the game's mechanics so that sniper rifles are more effective. This involves quickly focusing in on a target and firing so that users do not have to worry about adjusting the rifle. No-scoping, as the game implies, has users shoot at others with the sniper rifle without aiming properly in hopes of getting a kill faster. Perhaps Respawn will place governors on sniper rifles preventing them from being fired unless players use the scope, or will make it so users have to set up a sniper rifle before using it, thus preventing the user from moving around with it in use.
Titanfall was announced at E3 2013, and the game quickly grabbed the attention of fans. The game seeks to change online shooters by combining storytelling elements usually reserved for a single player campaign and adding them to the game's multiplayer-only gameplay. Users will join one of two teams and fight it out on foot and in giant robots and effect how the story unfolds by either winning or losing the match. This eliminates the need for a single-player campaign that could drain developer's resources and allow Respawn to deliver a solid and cinematic multiplayer mode.
For al these reasons, Titanfall is a game to watch in 2014. The game will be available on the Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC on March 11. There appears to be little hope of a PlayStation 4 version of the game, but Respawn has stated that they are open to having future entries in the series come to the Sony console.
