U.S. Rep Joaquin Castro of Texas (D) had a few choice words for House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) on Sunday as he ripped into the chairman for carrying out a pointed crusade against the president over the killing of American personnel in Benghazi.
"Chairman Issa and members of that committee crusaded for over a year on what was really a fairy tale, claiming that the administration knew that Al-Qaeda was involved and wouldn't admit it," Castro said to Meet the Press. "Some of the information that came out early, although it may have been wrong, that was their best effort.
"Darrell Issa and others took that and crusaded against the administration in a way that, I think, has been a big distraction for the American people."
This comes after a report that suggests that there was no tie-in to the central core of Al Qaeda, and that anti-American sentiment following the release of a video that was insulting to the Islamic prophet did play a role in ratcheting up the tension that led to the attacks.
Issa defended his statements, saying that Al Qaeda is itself not a core "central command" operation. As well, Fox News has since come out with a report claiming people who were on the ground during the incident are contradicting the latest findings.
