Apple CEO Tim Cook has made good on his promise last week regarding the Apple TV, which is now available for pre-orders. The device, which Tech Crunch noted is the first to feature an App Store for third-party games and applications, with new touch-based remote as well as Siri integration, is now available n two storage capacities.
The 32GB Apple TV goes on sale for $149, while the 64GB version costs $199. However, it is said to be available in 80 countries the Siri support will only be available for about a dozen or so. CNet claimed that US deliveries can begin as early as Friday, while it is listed to have the delivery tie of three to five business days in the UK and in Australia.
What can be expected from Apple TV?
The company has dubbed it as "the future of television" and it allows for seamless usage across different Apple platforms such as the iPhone, iPad and yes, Apple TV. It features a universal voice search that lets you find available content across your installed apps, and with the remote's touch interface, it is easy to navigate as well.
The Apple TV box in itself is said to be a taller version of the previous generation of Apple TB, and it now has an A8 processor and the choice if 32GB or 64GB storage for apps and other content.
Launched in an event in September, the company has showed the redesign of the MLB app, as well as the addition of games such as Guitar Hero Live and Disney Infinity 3.0, which, until recently were only made available for games consoles.
To make this work, Polygon reported that the apps on the Apple TV will run on an aggressive and intelligent operating system called the tvOS, which, in many ways is said to be a radical rethinking of fundamental operating systems.
The outlet also noted that despite the Apple TV taking away some control from app makers and Apple TV users, the way it does so makes it more effective for its users, as one can see clearly the company's vision for their future, whee apps are downloaded quickly and transparently, with no need of managing storage space.
However, to do so, Apple is said to be asserting control of the internal storage of the Apple TV, adding and deleting data as they see fit.
