Halloween is only a few days away, and it's time to dress up. Janis Ian may have pegged it right when she said it's an excuse for girls to dress up like sluts, but sometimes, even a slutty costume is better than some pretty controversial ones from some pretty popular Hollywood celebrities.
Here are some of the most controversial Halloween costumes in recent times that are either tacky, insensitive, or just plainly bad ideas, check them out:
Chris Brown as a Terrorist - in 2012, the singer decided to show up in Rihanna's party, dressed as a terrorist. The New York Daily News said he showed up with four members of his posse, all complete with fake beards, turbans, and presumably fake guns.
Julianne Hough as Crazy Eyes - first of all, Julianne Hough is a white girl dressed up as a black character from hit series "Orange Is The New Black." This hype, called "blackface", is considered a taboo, something that Hough should be aware enough to know. E! News reported that Hough later apologized for her decision, saying that . "I am a huge fan of the show Orange is the New black, actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created. It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize."
Heidi Klum as Hindu Goddess Kali - Some cultures are more sensitive about their Gods and Goddesses than others. For instance, the Greeks and Romans may not feel offended with people dressing up as one of their Deities, but Hindus did not find it appropriate when Heidi Klum decided to dress up as their goddess, Kali, for Halloween. Actually, according to Gawker, she offended them so much that Hindu-American leaders demanded an apology from the model, saying, "Goddess Kali is highly revered in Hinduism and she is meant to be worshipped in temples and not to be used in clubs for publicity stunts or thrown around loosely for dramatic effects. "
Ashley Benson as Cecil the Lion - this year, the top controversial celebrity costume (so far) is Pretty Little Liars actress Ashley Benson's, when she dressed up as Cecil the Lion, the rare black-maned species who was killed earlier this year by a US Dentist. Benson apologized for the blunder, saying that she wasn't actually wearing a Cecil the Lion costume, but all the same, she decided to donate to the World Wildlife Fund.
What do you think about these celebrity decisions as per their Halloween costumes?
