It's going to be an awkward dinner party for Meredith (Ellem Pompeo) on the next episode of "Grey's Anatomy".
In a report via the International Business Times, the fifth episode of the show's current season will be called "Look Who's Coming To Dinner" and Meredith is going to be forced to break bread with Callie's (Sara Ramirez) new girlfriend, the woman who killed Mer's own McDreamy (Patrick Dempsey).
In a promo for the next episode, fans will have to watch Meredith controlling her urge to vomit after seeing Callie's new girlfriend Penny (Samantha Sloyan), the doctor who was supposed, but failed to keep Derek alive following his life-threatening car crash last season.
Alex (Justin Chambers) noticed something's off about Meredith, observing that she looked "freaked out", although she insists on being "great". Of course he may or may not piece together that Meredith is acting weird due to having to sit at dinner with the person she views as the one who let her husband die, but fans are curious as to how exactly Alex can put two and two together, and once he does and tells the group, there's no way to know how Callie would react.
At this point in the season, Derek's death is still very difficult for Meredith, despite the time jump that occurred. for instance, in episode 4, the widow became very adamant about the interns taking their jobs seriously, even more so when it comes to revealing to the families of their patients that their loved one just died.
She advised the group of interns, "You are changing this person's life forever. You are responsible for this moment," adding that their faces will be etched in the minds of the families forever, the same way Penny's face was forever etched in hers after Derek's death.
The extent of Penny's impact on Mer will become even more apparent in the Episode 5 as she relieves Derek's death again after she sees Penny being introduced to the group at her dinner party.
Other things to look forward to on "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" include Maggie's (Kelly McCreary) ditching the dinner party to sort a personal issue at the hospital. April (Sarah Drew) then steps in to avoid talking to Jackson (Jesse Williams), while Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) will have to come to terms meeting the new woman in Callie's life, although definitely not in the same way that a traumatized Meredith will have to.
Catch "Grey's Anatomy" on Thursday at 8 on ABC.
