The new "Power Rangers" team is slowly-but-surely coming together as the showrunners reveal who they choose to play as group's leader, the Red Power Ranger.

In an announcement made over Twitter, makers of the "Power Rangers" film reboot revealed Dacre Montgomery as the new Jason Lee Scott a.k.a. the Red Power Ranger.

"Every #PowerRangers squad needs a leader. Welcome Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger in the 2017 #PowerRangersMovie!" the Tweet read, revealing a photo of the actor in the trademark Ranger overlay.

Based on a mini-biography posted on IMdB, Montgomery is basically a newcomer in the industry with only two other films on his resumé: 2010's "Bertrand, The Terrible" and 2011's "Family Tree Pilot Trailer."

The role of the Red Ranger was originally played by Austin St. John in the original 1993 Fox Kids TV series "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers."

Aside from the Red Ranger, the filmmakers have already announced their decision to cast Naomi Scott to play the role of Pink Ranger earlier in October.

According to Variety, the reboot of the long-running series, penned by Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller, would reimagine the origins and adventures of "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" composed of a group of high school kids who received extraterrestrial powers.

Like the original show, the new team of Power Rangers would unite to save the world from destruction and battle gigantic mechanical vehicles known as "Zords."

However, a report from Slash Film noted that the film is expected to cater the "inexplicable adult fanbase" the franchise maintained over the years because director Dean Israelite described it as "mature but playful."

"I read the script and was really surprised by it and thought there was a really cool, contemporary, mature but still playful, buoyant and fun take on the material, and was updated in a really interesting way. It had this wonderful character that's essential to going on a fantastic adventure," Israelite told IGN.

Slash Film further clarified that the "Power Rangers" film due for release on January 13, 2017 is not actually a 'reboot' but a continuation of its past versions both in the big and small screen.

This means that some of the classic Power Ranger villains like Lord Zedd and Rita Repulsa would most probably not appear in the film since they have already been eliminated by the Z-wave, an energy wave created by Zordon that purified the evil ones.

A report from Collider also revealed that the film would start filming in Vancouver starting January next year.
