U.S. Vice President Joe Biden is empowering the Latino community.

At a Latino Victory Project fundraiser in Washington, D.C., earlier this month, Biden gave a speech about immigration and America's future. He also touched on the anti-immigrant rhetoric by the Republican Party mostly led by Donald Trump.

Biden said that Latino attendees "walked in [to the event] literally down because of the beating Hispanics are taking at the hands of the Republican caucus," according to CNN.

"People are depressed ... and the message I have for you guys is these guys don't remotely speak for America. The American people are so much better. They are so far beyond. They are so, so, so much different than these guys who are appealing to everything from homophobia to this notion of the like know nothing party of the late 1800s," he said, as reported by CNN.

Biden, who is of Irish descent, said that xenophobia has been present in the U.S. since the olden days, and these periods have one common denominator.

"We've been through these periods before - this nativism never succeeds. And it will not succeed now," he said, as quoted by Latina. He also mentioned Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who once said that, "no one can ride your back unless your back is bent," the news outlet added.

Biden persuaded Latinos to "stand up" and "straighten your shoulders," Latina reported. "Make no damn apologies for anything. Just go out and make the case [for immigration reform] straight up. We will win simply on the decency of what we're fighting for."

Latino Victory Project executive director Cristobal Alex said that Biden's appearance at the fundraiser was a last-minute surprise, but it was a welcome one, CNN noted.

Biden Announcing Presidential Bid?

A separate report from CNN said that the VP's associates are "setting up interviews for potential staff positions on a Biden presidential campaign." There are plenty of speculations that Biden, who has run for president in 1988 and 2008, will throw his hat in the ring for the Democratic 2016 presidential primary.

Biden was in a meeting with his top political advisers on Monday night and at least twice last week, the news outlet claimed. Pennsylvania Democratic Rep. Brendan Boyle said that Biden's announcement for his presidential bid is coming "very soon." He tweeted on Monday, "I have a very good source close to Joe that tells me VP Biden will run for Prez."

"If he didn't run, it would be pulling back from a decision that's already been made," Boyle told CNN. "There are some things that are already in motion."
