For the first time ever, One Direction cancels a tour due to one of its members falling ill. The wildly popular boy band, which includes Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson called off their Belfast show moments before they are expected to hit the stage because of Liam falling "suddenly ill".
According to E! News, an announcer told the packed crowd at the venue, "Unfortunately, the show tonight has been canceled as Liam has been taken ill and while it is not serious, he is unable to perform tonight."
The packed crowed erupted in horror at the news, and fans were inconsolable in their disappointment. However, the incident was really unavoidable. The band's representatives already released a statement regarding the cancellation of their show, which noted on Liam's "sudden" illness. The statement also went on to say that "Fans have been asked to hold on to their tickets and there will be a further statement tomorrow. The band apologize to their fans and wish Liam well as soon as possible."
This is the first time that One Direction has cancelled a show, as they have shown resilience in the past. As Entertainment Weekly mentioned, Payne was pulled out of a performance in July 2014 due to an ankle injury, only to return later on-stage to perform the rest of the concert while sitting down.
Also late last year, Tomlinson was forced to bow out of their performance, yet the band moved on forward with the show, and again in November without Zayn Malik. However, with Malik's departure from the band finalized, and without Payne's vocals, the boys will be left to perform as a three-piece band, which doesn't seem too much fun, especially without their Payne's backbone vocals.
With that, Harry Styles expressed his disappointment and tweeted an apology for the fans. He shared, "Deepest apologies to everyone at the show tonight in Belfast. Very disappointed, but unfortunately these things happen. We're very sorry."
Louis said in his own account, "We're so so sorry for what happened tonight, it was out of our control ! Lots of love to Liam and thank you for being so understanding !"
Niall added on his own Twitter account, "So sorry we have had to cancel tonight guys. Unfortunately these things happen ... Thank you to all who came down tonight!"
The boys will be getting their much-needed break soon, though, which they may need to recuperate considering that they have been dropping like flies. EW noted that Niall has been performing with a walking boot, while Harry has recently broken a bone in his foot.
For now, go ahead and join the trend of fans posting #GetWellSoonLiam on their social media pages.
