Rosario Dawson will provide her voice to Batgirl in the animated "Lego Batman" movie.

The 36-year-old actress will be joining Will Arnett (Batman), Michael Cera (Robin), and Zach Galifianakis (currently in negotiation to play Joker) in Warner Bros.' spin-off of the 2014 flick "The Lego Movie," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Batgirl is also known as Barbara Gordon, the daughter of police commissioner James Gordon.

Chris McKay, who supervised animation in "The Lego Movie," serves as the spin-off's director from a script by Seth Grahame-Smith, the news outlet further reported. Dan Lin, Roy Lee, Phil Lord, and Christopher Miller are producing. Lord said that the spin-off "will explore Batman's emotions, and have him trying to find happiness," IGN wrote.

Dawson recently finished filming the second season of Netflix and Marvel's "Daredevil," where she plays the character of Night Nurse, The Hollywood Reporter noted. She will also portray the character in the upcoming TV series "Luke Cage," also by Netflix and Marvel.

Prior to her commitment with "Lego Batman," Dawson previously provided her voice to Wonder Woman in DC's "Justice League: Throne of Atlantis" and Artemis in "Wonder Woman," the news outlet added.

"Lego Batman" will bow in theaters on Feb. 10, 2017, Variety wrote.

'The Lego Movie' Sequel News

In April, it was announced that another "The Lego Movie" spin-off "Ninjago" will debut in theaters on Sept. 22, 2017, while "The Lego Movie Sequel" is slated for a May 18, 2018 release date, according to a separate report from Variety.

"We are very excited about dating our upcoming Lego animated features, which already have a worldwide fan following, built on the foundation of the first film," said Dan Fellman, president of domestic distribution at Warner Bros, as quoted by the news outlet. "These three films already in the pipeline are just the beginning of a creative and diverse animation slate that will be delighting audiences for years to come."

The original "Lego Movie" was a blockbuster hit. Deadline wrote that it grossed $69M in its debut. Domestic earnings are at $257.7M and another $211M internationally, grossing $468.7M worldwide

The animated flick also bagged Grammy and Oscar nominations for its song titled "Everything is Awesome," Entertainment Weekly added.

Last February, a separate report from IGN said that "Community" director Rob Schrab will helm the sequel, which also serves as his first feature project. Vocal talents from the first "Lego Movie" are also expected to reprise their roles, which includes Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Ferrell, Nick Offerman, and Charlie Day, Cinema Blend noted.
