Carrie Underwood has not slowed down a bit! The new mother is gearing up toward the release of her fifth studio album, "Storyteller", which is set for an October 23 release date. Before that, though, the country superstar is already gifting her fans with bits of the project, the latest being a new song called "Heartbeat" which she sang in collaboration with Sam Hunt.
Rolling Stone noted that Underwood is known for blending her intimate lyrics with powerful choruses, and the power ballad of "Heartbeat" is the latest to get this treatment. According to the outlet, the song's smooth vocal delivery sets the mood, making her listeners feel that they're eavesdropping on someone else's date.
To blend with Underwood's vocal stylings is Hunt, who provided a male counterpoint with his warm and somber vocals, and serving as Underwood's duet in the chorus. His star power, recent as he is on the scene, is said to be the latest proof that Underwood has a keen eye for teaming up with new, genre-advancing artists, especially because she is very selective when it comes to featuring artists. For those unfamiliar with his work, Hunt is known for his hits "Leave the Night On", "Take Your Time" and "House Party'.
Underwood told Entertainment Weekly in August, "I try not to force anything ever and that's kind of where you can get into some tricky territory. I've been lucky enough to get to sing with a lot of cool people but it's always been for some sort of event or something. It's never really quite worked out on my album except for Randy Travis."
Actually, she's very selective with the people she surrounds herself with. In an interview with People recently, she was asked whether she wanted a squad of her own, like Taylor Swift does, to which she replied, "what's 'squad'?"
She went on, "Like a posse? I have people I hang out with. My friends are normal people -- one's a baker and the other is a stay-at-home mom."
This could also be due to the fact that despite her fame, she's not really a group-setting kind of person. She shared, "I still get totally nervous in group situations," she added. "I don't always know what to say. I can be super awkward and I will say the wrong thing... I don't always know what to say."
Check out the song below before "Storyteller" drops on October 23.
