"Gotham" showrunner John Stephens reveals how the origins of Joker relate to the lunatic criminal mastermind Jerome Valeska in show's second season.

During this year's New York Comic-Con, Stephens teased fans of the series based on the mythology of the "Dark Knight" particularly on the part where the show featured a Joker-like character portrayed by Cameron Monaghan.

According to Screen Rant, season 2's "The Last Laugh" episode caused surprise to many especially those who thought that Jerome was "the heir apparent to the mantle of the Clown Prince of Crime."

The outlet noted that the audience expected Valeska to build up the origins of Joker and become a major villain.

However, he was killed off early in the season and even showed how he bled to death with a creepy Joker-like smile on his face, killing the very idea that he was actually the actual Joker.

As it turns out, this has given James Frain's Theo Galavan, who had been dubbed as the "big baddie for the season," a chance to level up into becoming an even more sinister villain.

But, during the NYCC 2015 panel, the "Gotham" writer and executive producer is throwing in fuel to bring The Joker into the picture yet again.

"If you watch the episodes closely, as they go forward this year you'll start seeing the seeds of the way that story will continue to develop," he teased.

What is more interesting is the spoiler that follows his statement.

"And we probably have not seen the last of that fellow," he continued, probably referring to the Joker.

Screen Rant noted that in the comic books, The Joker had been thought to be dead several times but always returns.

This idea paves the way to a question on whether or not the Joker copycat may still be alive especially if there is a chance that Jerome and Theo had actually planned the entire thing and faked the death scene.

The outlet also noted that "Gotham's" Jerome Valeska may have been given a surname that is Slavic for "glorious ruler," to prove this cryptic sentence: "In order to ascend to the mantle of the Clown Prince of Crime the Joker in Gotham will clearly need to earn his chops and pay his dues."

Either way, the effects of introducing the Joker as a young boy have fired up the audience into watching more episodes of "Gotham" season 2 which most probably was the goal from the very beginning.
