Minecraft has been one of the biggest success stories in gaming, as the indie game went from a free PC download to one of the biggest titles ever to come to the platform as well as the Xbox 360 and mobile devices. With ports of the game coming to the Xbox One, PlayStation Vita, and PlayStation 4, many are wondering why there has been no word on a Wii U version of Minecraft in the works. Well now the creator of the game, Markus "Notch" Persson, has revealed that current there are no plans to bring the game to the Wii U.

Notch announced this news through Twitter, saying that despite Minecraft's huge popularity there is no port for the Wii U coming as far as he knows:

"I am not aware of any plans to release a Wii U version of Minecraft."

The developer went on to say in a different message that he and the rest of Mojang, the studio behind Minecraft, have nothing against Nintendo or the Wii U, but the company is too busy with all the other work they have going on to even consider working on another port for the game:

"I agree a Wii U version would make sense, btw. The only reason for no current plans is we've got too much work already. I <3 Nintendo."

With the Wii U's Gamepad and other features, it would make sense for the game to eventually find its way on to the Wii U. The game could be a big mainstream hit for the struggling Wii U console, and Mojang could work with Nintendo to bring exclusive skins and other DLC to the same in the same way the game has had crossovers with other franchises such as Mass Effect, Skyrim, and the Marvel Universe.

Minecraft seeks to continue to break records and dominate the next generation of consoles much like it has already on Microsoft platforms. The game has already sold over 33 million units across several platforms as of September, and that figure will dramatically increase as the game makes it to Sony platforms. Originally, Minecraft had an exclusive arrangement with Microsoft to only appear on the Xbox 360, however since then the deal has expired and Sony was quick to bring the game to their own systems.
