A Disney moneymaker has been canceled, said Screen Rant and this news came just after the confirmation of returning cast members as ell as its director. The said film is "Tron 3" and was supposed to begin shooting this fall in Vancouver. However, it looks like it's not happening any time soon.
Speaking with ComingSoon.net, Garrett Hedlund, who was supposed to star in the film, said that "Tron 3" development is actually going well. However, he also said, "I don't have all the answers. I mean, ever since [TRON] Legacy came out, they'd always wanted to get a concrete story for the next one."
"I knew that the new characters that we were introducing were going to be incredible. The script was really getting to a place to where everybody was getting really excited. The common comment was, 'This one's going to blow Legacy out of the water.' I was really excited for that," he added.
For now, it's an indefinite pause on the project, with Hedlund lamenting, "Maybe there'll be a time and a place for it."
Hedlund hinted that Disney wants to do right by the franchise and find the right story for the third film, which they said should be "concrete and exciting" and right now, it sees that the written script is not enough for the company to give it the greenlight.
However, Cinema Blend has noted that Hedlund is clearly interested in the franchise, implying that Olivia Wilde and Jeff Bridges are also very willing to stay on board for the third installment.
However, with the indefinitely shelved status of "Tron 3" fans should bear in mind that it is not going to be released in the near future. It took 28 years for "Tron 2" to be delivered on the big screen, it might even take as long as that to finally get the producers to release the third.
With "Tron 3" on hold, fans can catch him on"Pan"which was released in theaters on October 9. Hedlund plays the boy's nemesis, Captain Hook, and acting alongside him are Hugh Jackman as Blackbeard, Levi Miller as Peter Pan, and Rooney Mara as Tiger Lily. Amanda Seyfried will also be making an appearance as Mary, and model-turned-actress Cara Delevigne has a role in the film as a mermaid.
