After the success of Netflix's "Daredevil", the company decided it's time for girl action by introducing a female superhero into the mix this year in the form of Jessica Jones, portrayed by actress Krysten Ritter. While she is known for her lighthearted roles, which included comedies like "Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23", "Veronica Mars", and "Confessions of a Shopaholic", she also proved she had the acting chops that extended to more than the funny ones, including her stint on "Breaking Bad". This could be an indication that she's going to pull off being a superhero, as Newsarama already noted her stunning performance as Jessica Jones.
However, Ritter's acting chops aside here are the things that we know about the superhero show so far:
1) A female lead calls for a female calling the shots. "Jessica Jones" is going to be brought to the small screen by Melissa Rosenberg, and will be directed by female director SJ Clarkson, whose claim to fame include "Heroes" and "Orange Is The New Black".
2) Of course, it will also feature some male characters. He may be a good guy as The Tenth Doctor, but David Tennant will relemble more of his "Harry Potter" character as a bad guy in this series. He is said to be Jessica's nemesis called Kilgrave.
3) There are also some gender switches. For instance, Jeryn Hogarth is no more --- he has been replaced by a female character called Jeri Hogarth, played by none other than Carrie-Anne Moss. In the Marvel Universe, Hogarth is a brilliant lawyer who is associated with Heroes For Hire.
4) Traditionally, Jessica Jones has super strength as well as the ability to fly, however, as Entertainment Tonight noted, MCU has already introduced a slew of weird superpowers, so Jessica may get more as well.
5) Jessica is not for kids: "Daredevil" may be dark and gritty, but Jessica is all too-real with explicit sex scenes. Marvel's head of television, Jeph Loeb said about the latest endeavor, "'Jessica Jones' was based on a much more adult comic...She has real problems with a number of things that she abuses! And we're not shying away from that. There's no tidying her up."
And as a bonus: Rosario Dawson will reprise her role as Claire Temple, and will serve as a connector that will hold Netflix's Marvel Universe together.
All 13 episodes of "Marvel's Jessica Jones" will premiere on November 20 on Netflix.
