Apple Inc.'s mission to ban certain Samsung products is back on despite the fact that the products are no longer in production.

A new motion by the Cupertino-based company has asked U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh to ban sales of more than 20 Samsung products such as the Galaxy S 4G and the Galaxy Tab 10.1.

The 20 Samsung smartphones and tablets were found guilty of infringing Apple's patents in August 2012, but Judge Koh had rejected Apple's bid for a sales ban. A federal appeals court, however, cleared the way for Apple to reissue an injunction on the Samsung products on Nov. 18.

"Samsung's claim that it has discontinued selling the particular models found to infringe or design around Apple's patents in no way diminishes Apple's need for injunctive relief," Apple stated in the latest court filing on Dec. 26. "Because Samsung frequently brings new products to market, an injunction is important to providing Apple the relief it needs to combat any future infringement by Samsung through products not more than colorably different from those already found to infringe."

According to Apple, financial damages for the Tim Cook-led company are not enough to replace the "incalculable" lost market share and sales caused by Samsung's products.

"Taken together, the equities strongly favor entry of a permanent injunction to prevent Apple from suffering further irreparable harm through Samsung's unlawful competition with products embodying Apple's valuable patented features," continued Apple in the motion's conclusion.

Apple is seeking the U.S. district court to commence injunction proceedings as soon as Jan. 30, 2014.
