"Sherlock" fans will soon know what happened to their favorite eccentric sleuth after he tumbled down a waterfall last season, seemingly to his death.

The BBC recently released a mini-episode of the series ahead of "Sherlock's" premiere in the U.K. and the U.S. The 7-minute teaser shows the crime-solving going on around the globe after Sherlock's (Benedict Cumberbatch) disappearance.

Detectives around the world are desperate to figure out what happened to the crime-solving Brit, but some believe that a new, mysterious crime-solver is Sherlock himself. The mini-episode hints at the mystery unfolding, and shows Watson (Martin Freeman) dejectedly watching a video of Sherlock with a glass of scotch.

Season three will kickoff in the U.S. and the U.K. nearly simultaneously, with the series premiering in the U.K. on Jan. 1 and in the U.S. on Jan. 19. The new season will have three new feature-length mysteries, including the reveal of how Sherlock managed to fake his death in "The Reichenbach Fall."

Buzzfeed has verified the fact that Sherlock is indeed alive. They revealed photos of "The Sign of Three," the second episode of the new season, in which Sherlock will face one of his toughest problems yet: being a best man.

Watson is getting married, and according to the official episode description, "Sherlock faces his biggest challenge of all - delivering a Best Man's speech on John's wedding day."

"Sherlock" premies on PBS on Jan. 19 with an episode called "The Empty Hearse."
