A release date has been confirmed for Google's latest mobile device, the Nexus 5X.
According to Talk Android, the Nexus 5X listing just changed from "shipping in the coming weeks" to "will ship October 22." Note that this is only applicable to those who purchased black and white colored variants. The mint color model will not be available for now.
Those who pre-ordered the device by Oct. 22 will get a $50 credit to the Google Play Store as well as a 90-day free for Play Music all access, Talk Android noted.
The Nexus 5X's 16GB and 32GB options -- which can be bought for $379 and $429, respectively -- have the same release date, the news outlet added.
Nexus 5X Design & Display
Google's page for the Nexus 5X describes the smartphone as a "compact, lightweight" device with "top-line performance." It has a 5.2-inch display with 1080 x 1920 screen resolution at ~424 ppi. The LG-developed handset weighs 136 grams, and has a 147 x 72.6 x 7.9 mm dimension.
Corning Gorilla Glass 3 with oleophobic coating protects the Nexus 5X's screen, GSM Arena noted. Tech Radar wrote that the reason why the device is so light is because of its plastic design, which is a far cry from the Nexus 6P's all-metal body. The Nexus 5X comes in matte finish colors of black, white, and greenish blue, which are referred to by Google as Quartz White, Charcoal Black, and Ice Blue, respectively.
Nexus 5X Operating System, Chipset, Internal Storage, & Battery
The Nexus 5X is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 808 with a 64-bit 1.8GHz hexa-core CPU. It has a 2700 mAh battery, 2GB of RAM, and the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow serving as its operating system, GSM Arena added.
Tech Radar noted that the Nexus 5X doesn't have a microSD slot.
Nexus 5X Camera & Other Specs
The handset's 12.3MP primary camera has a "larger than normal pixels" at 1.55 microns and f/2.0 aperture, Tech Radar wrote. This allows the Nexus 5X to capture extra light for stronger indoor photography, making it an excellent device for taking snapshots in low light. Its front camera sits at 5MP with the normal 1.4 microns.
The Nexus 5X is also equipped with the Nexus Imprint designed for security. Google wrote that the feature allows users to turn on their screen with one touch, "unlock your apps quickly and easily, and let you breeze through checkout lines." The smartphone also has the USB Type-C for fast charging.
