Apple's iPhone 5s can be purchased with $0 up front courtesy of one major mobile carrier in the United States.

AT&T's Next Installment plans are offering the new Apple smartphone for $0 down if the consumer selects a 12 or 18 month plan. With AT&T Next, the consumer can select an installment plan and pay over a period of 20 or 26 months. The monthly installment payments, however, will vary depending on the smartphone the consumer chooses.

With the iPhone 5s, the first installment plan is the 12-month deal. With $0 up front, the consumer will have to pay $32.50 per month and can be eligible to upgrade their device after the 12 payments.

The second installment plan is for 18 months. The 18-month installment plan decreases the monthly payments from $32.50 to $25. In return, however, the consumer will be eligible for an upgrade after 18 months.

In comparison to a standard two-year contract, the consumer will have to pay $199.99 up front for the iPhone 5s, pay an upgrade fee of $36 for the next smartphone, and wait 24 months for the upgrade eligibility.

"If you cancel your wireless service before your [installment plan] is completed, you agree to pay the full balance remaining on your device," noted the mobile carrier.

The prices increase with the bigger GB models. The 32GB model will have the consumer pay $37.50 for 20 months in order to be eligible for an upgrade in 12 months while the 64GB model will cost the AT&T subscriber $42.50 per month.

The features for the iPhone 5s are, for the most part, the same specifications as the discontinued iPhone 5, such as the 4-inch Retina Display with 1,136x640 resolution, 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, and 1080p HD video recording camera, to name a few. The iPhone 5s, however, features a larger f/2.2 aperture for the rear-facing camera with the aim of improving low-light photography. The iPhone 5s also utilizes the A7 processor chip with 64-bit architecture, which plays a critical role with the Touch ID.
