A video game charity to drive has managed to raise $10 million for a special organization, showing the generosity that both video game fans and the men and women who work on them have as well as the dedication that one gamer in particular shows to try and improve the world.

Bachir Boumaaza, also known as Athene, runs the charity Gaming For Good with the sole purpose of raising money for the Save the Children organization. The website hit a major milestone by surpassing $10 million in donations, with every single penny of that money going to Save the Children. This is a huge accomplishment, and shows just how strongly Boumaaza and his supporters are.

The way that Gaming for Good works is that developers and publishers give away copies of their games to the website. These games range from indie titles large and small to blockbuster titles such as Tomb Raider, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and Metro: Last Light. People can buy these games through redeeming points acquired on the site. Points are given to players when they donate to the website. This way when gamers buy the games on the website, the money goes completely to charity as opposed to the publishers, developer, or retailers.

The Save the Children charity focuses on providing health care to disadvantaged young people in Malawi, Indonesia and Bangladesh. The amount of money raised by this website is no small feat, and gamers should be proud of their accomplish and continue to support the website and Save the Children.

When Boumaaza is not changing the world, he is known by his gamer handle Athene. Boumaaza has several world records in the world of video game. He is the first to beat Civilization 5 on the Deity difficulty level, beat the first boss found in Diablo 3 in less than a second, and set many different records in World of Warcraft. He is also known for his video game videos in which he trash talk other gamers, which helped him gain enough fame to launch these successful charity drives. In a Q&A session on Kotaku he revealed that this tactic both helps and hurts his charity efforts:
"I did experience a big backfire with sharecraft, the project where we tried to raise a million for charity. Most forums if not all where flamewars about the athene persona. I think that it's a two edged blade, if it wasn't for the troll aspect nobody would have cared in the first place so I think i have to take it along me."
