Microsoft released the Surface Book along with other new products this week. At first glance, the device may look and function similar just like the tech giant's other products, such as the Surface Pro 3. But of course, there are some notable differences between the two.
Here's how the Surface Book and Surface Pro 3 differ from each other.
Design & Display
Tech Insider described the Surface Book as Microsoft's first ever "high-end laptop" that converts into a tablet, while the Surface Pro 3 is a tablet that can be turned into a laptop-like device with the help of the Type Cover keyboard.
The Surface Book has a 13.5-inch PixelSense display that can be detached without fuss from the keyboard to transform into a light and thin tablet that works well with OneNote and Surface Pen. The device weighs 3.48 pounds (1,576 grams), and has a dimension of 12.3 inches long, 9.14 inches wide, and 0.51- to 0.9-inches deep, the news outlet added.
The Surface Pro 3 has a 12-inch ClearType Full HD screen with 2160 x 1440 resolution, Microsoft's official site noted. It weighs 1.76 lbs (800 grams), and has a dimension of 11.5 inches long, 7.93 inches wide, and a 0.36 depth, CNET wrote.
Software, Battery, & Base Specs
The Surface Book can function up to 12 hours. It is also equipped with Intel Core i5, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of internal storage, Tech Insider listed. The device runs using the latest Windows 10.
The Surface Pro 3 can function up to 9 hours of Web browsing. It is powered by the 4th generation Intel Core, with its 64GB or 128GB storage variants with 4GB RAM and its 256GB or 512GB storage models with 8GB RAM, Microsoft listed.
Other Specs
Other specs included in the Surface Book are two USB 3.0 ports, full size SD card reader, Mini DisplayPort, an 8MP primary camera with autofocus and 1080p video, a 5MP front-facing shooter, front and rear-facing dual microphones, and front-facing stereo speakers with Dolby audio, Tech Insider noted.
When converting the device into a tablet, the display has a muscle wire lock so you can undock it safely, or pivot the screen around so it functions like a clipboard, the news outlet wrote.
The Surface Pro 3 is equipped with the Windows 8.1, 5MP primary and secondary cameras, a full-size USB 3.0, microSD card reader, and Mini DisplayPort, Microsoft's site indicated.
Price
The Surface Book has a price tag of $1,499 that can reach up to $2,699, Tech Insider wrote. The Surface Pro 3, in contrast, starts at $799, Microsoft stated in their website.
