Pixar Fan Theories Debunked by 'Toy Story' Writer Pete Docter

Two of the biggest fan-made Pixar theories have been discredited by none other than Pete Docter, the genius behind seven of the animation studio's best films.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Docter revealed the true backstory and connection of Pixar characters and movies that apparently has no basis.

The first and closest to home-theory the writer debunked was a seemingly accurate backstory about one of the background characters in all "Toy Story" movies: Andy's mom.

According to the theory cited in Huffington Post, Andy's mom is the girl named Emily who previously owned and had outgrown the cowgirl doll Jessie.

Evidence about this was also compiled in the post including the fact that Andy's hat is similar to what Jessie wears and not Woody's.

According to the Huffington Post, this is most probably the same hat considering how it is not included in Emily's donation box where other Jessie-related items were contained.

However, this was just not the case since according to Docter, he and "Toy Story 2" director John Lasseter agreed on a different back story.

"You know, John Lasseter was the director on that and we talked for hours about backstory -- and we have our own kind of backstory that's a little different than that," he explained, also expressing his interest at how things like that keep "bubbling up" despite the number of years that passed.

When asked whether or not he and Lasseter would reveal the backstory they came up with, "The interesting thing is that we're now on Toy Story 4, and still stuff that we discussed in [the original] Toy Story, twenty-something years ago, those ideas are still being used," he said.

ET Online interpreted this as a hint that the answer lies at a later "Toy Story" movie.

The second one Docter debunked was the idea that all movies from Pixar are connected, something that was thoroughly discussed in a fan-made website called Pixar Theory which provided an interactive run through all movies of Pixar and explaining how each are connected to the others.

The website basically states that, like in the Marvel or DC, all Pixar movies are setup in a single universe.

"Well, I don't want to spoil anybody's fun. I'm flattered that people spend time thinking about this. [But] we really try to create very distinct worlds in each film. So for [those who think the] characters from Monsters [would] show up in The Incredibles is kind of a design... it breaks my head a little bit to be honest," Docter explained.
