"Gotham" season 2 continues its surprises streak as tonight's episode brings more backstories and big revelations about the Caped Crusader's archenemy, The Joker.

Since the second half of the show's first season, Fox's series has toyed with the idea of having The Joker in the show though not directly.

In an exclusive report from Deadline, revealed that this would still be the case in the sophomore season's fourth episode which would be called "The Last Laugh."

According to the outlet, the show would continue to provide an entirely new twist to the already-twisted story of how the Clown Prince of Crime came to be and who he is exactly.

The report also clarified that while he was introduced as a menacing criminal mastermind, Cameron Monaghan's Jerome Valeska cannot be The Joker because he is already killed in season 2's "Rise Of The Villains" episode.

But according to Deadline, Valeska's death would inspire the coming of The Joker.

"With a cult already growing around the chaos and casualties that Jerome and the rest of the Maniax escapees from Arkham Asylum brought to Gotham over the first two episodes and the deep-pocketed gala charity ball on tonight's show, the Joker is coming," the outlet revealed.

This was echoed by a review from TV.com's Mary Ann Sleasman noting that The Joker would most probably a fan of the young and already-dead Gotham menace.

In fact, this was confirmed by the show's executive producer Bruno Heller in an interview with Deadline.

"Because it's a twist that leads to more twists. The creation of the Joker is a larger and more epic story than people realize, and this show is very much about kind of the deep, secret history," the "Gotham" showrunner explained.

"So, as the show rolls on, people will see how a mythology is born, how a kind of cultural mien is created that will lead us to the Joker himself," he continued. Clarifying that Valeska was only an inspiration and not the actual Joker.

Heller further confirmed that while The Joker would definitely be part of "Gotham," there is still the task of showing where he came from, the same way the show is building up the story of the young Bruce Wayne.

"When the Joker appears, he is an inevitable part of the history of Gotham. He's not someone who created himself out of nothing. He's part of a whole cultural history, a whole tradition. I know that sounds kind of highfalutin, but that's what the twist is about," Heller added.

Of course, the confusion is understandable with the red hair and crazy laugh that Valeska has.
